Glen Eden Extreme Edge is proud to present our 2017 series of Interschool Rock Climbing Competitions! These events are designed to encourage participation and give youth climbers a chance to experience competition climbing in a low pressure environment (and to be fun of course!). All school aged climbers are welcome to attend, however these events will be best suited towards climbers between 8-18 years old.

Schools please note – there is no need to field an official team nor to pre-register climbers from your school. All registrations will be taken on the day and climbers are welcome to attend by themselves/with family/friends. After the event we will notify all schools represented on the day of the results and placing of their climbers.

Format

All climbers will be split into age (and for older groups, gender) categories for the purposes of scoring.
Competitors will be allowed 1 attempt at 10 of the 15 event climbs during the open qualification round, with their top 5 scoring climbs combining to a total score that will determine finals participants. Scoring for the qualification round climbs will be ‘checkpoint’ style. The top 3 climbers from each category will progress to the finals.
The finals climbs will be climbed ‘on-sight’ format, i.e. climbers shall have one attempt at the climb with no prior knowledge of the climb, nor will they be allowed to watch other climbers attempt the climb.
Finals climbs will be scored the same as Climbing New Zealand/IFSC standards (i.e. one point assigned per handhold). In the event of a tie for the final score between climbers, the time taken to complete their attempt shall be used as a tie-break.
All rules will be discussed with the climbers before climbing begins.
