SYNCHRONISED SWIMMING NATIONALS
05/10/2018 @ 2:30 pm - 07/10/2018 @ 2:30 pm
Expect to be entertained by flying acrobatics, synchronised movements, toe-tapping music and wonderful costumes, when over 170 synchronised swimmers take to the water at Westwave in Henderson from the 6th -7th October to complete in the 2018 Synchro Swim New Zealand (SSNZ) National Championships.
International teams from Australia and New Caledonia will travel to Auckland to test their skills against New Zealand clubs including 3 clubs from Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and Invercargill. This is the largest number of competitors ever registered to compete and Auckland clubs are delighted to host regional and international visitors.
Athletes aged from 7 to 26 will compete across a number of different categories – Solos, Duets and Teams. “The Teams are often the crowd favourites – with lots of throws, lifts and jumps to entertain,” said Bronwyn Stackpole, Meet Manager. “All the more spectacular when you realise that at no point is anyone touching the ground underwater.” It might look effortless, but behind every routine are hours of training and commitment – both in the pool and on the land through gym work, flexibility and strength training.
Two New Zealand teams, featuring 22 of these athletes will be displaying their routines on Sunday 7th October 2018at 1.45 p.m. “It’s well worth coming along to watch what will be entertaining routines,” said Stackpole. “These athletes have trained every school holidays throughout the year, and will be travelling internationally to represent New Zealand in Singapore, Malaysia, Argentina and Brazil later in the year.”
Entry is free and spectators are welcome with key events as follows:
|Friday 5th October||2.30-3pm||Technical Solos, Duets and Teams|
|Saturday 6th October||10.30-12.45pm||Opening Ceremony followed by NZ Team displays and Free Combination Teams|
