This month’s Volunteer of the Month was narrowly won by Carol Birdsall of the East Coast Bays Hockey Club. Thanks to Novembers Sponsor Consult Recruitment, Carol has won a $100.00 petrol voucher.
Carol Gives an enormous amount of time to the club. She manages the Premier Women’s team, coaches the Premier 3 Women’s team, is the Youth Coordinator for the club, researches and sources funding for the club, helps organise clubs events and helps oversee the high performance programme that the club runs.
This involvement consumes majority of her weeknights and weekend, and she does this with no complaints.
Carols role within the Youth Space has resulted in enormous growth in youth participation at the club. She has organised and promoted various hockey fun days and a 10-week coaching programme for the youth members. Unfortunately, part of the 10-week programme fell into one of the lockdown periods. However, Carol did not let COVID-19 affect the delivery, she successfully took 5 weeks of the programme to an online form. Showing her determination, innovation, and dedication to her work within the club.
Volunteers are the blood stream of community sport and Carol is a testament to that.
Harbour Sport seeks to recognise the tens of thousands of sport volunteers who literally make sport happen throughout our Auckland Communities. This award would not exist without those that recognise their efforts and nominate them. This initiative has finished for 2020, however will be back in full force February 2021.
