Squash New Zealand’s role is to promote and enhance all aspects of squash activity in New Zealand through the development and delivery of programmes and activities from grassroots to the elite levels of competition.

THE ROLE – SQUASH MANAGER
Reporting to the Chief Executive the Squash Manager will work in close partnership with districts, clubs and Regional Sports Trusts (RSTs) to deliver the key priorities of the Squash NZ national strategy, “Squash on the Move”, which is aimed at growing participation and membership across the sport.

The Squash Manager will also be responsible for the oversight and implementation of programmes and services to districts and clubs, for referees, masters and provide logistical support to the managers of high performance and national events.

Applicants will need to demonstrate success in the development and implementation of programmes which have increased participation in sport. They must have the ability to effectively manage competing priorities and activities and be able to deliver results that are within budget and meet prescribed targets.

The role will require outstanding communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships and get buy in from a wide range of stakeholders. The Squash Manager will need to be innovative and adaptable, have strong leadership and team management skills and have a positive and proactive attitude.

The Squash Manager will work in close liaison with other members of senior management team at Squash New Zealand.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
MEMBERSHIP
Providing advice and guidance to districts and clubs on member recruitment and retention programmes including the provision of incentives and suggestions on alternative and refreshed membership models.

CLUB PROGRAMMES
Work with districts, clubs and RSTs to set up targeted programmes to attract new players to the club and increase the engagement with the regional coach to create contacts and links with the local schools and community groups.

Implement programmes to retain existing members and upskill volunteer club coaches. Facilitate a link between the regional CoachForce facilitators and development programmes.

MANAGEMENT & VOLUNTEERING
Provide guidance, in conjunction with RSTs, support and training to districts and clubs to help recruit, train and retain a stronger volunteer workforce for now and the sustainable future of squash at your club.

FACILITIES & ACCESS
Support clubs with advice and tools to maximise court usage and facility utilisation through the use of physical entry access systems, online bookings, membership management systems and maintenance programmes.

Be an advocate for the Squash New Zealand facilities strategy. Identify and assist clubs and districts with facility development initiatives and facility utilisation.

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION
Development of a range of promotional materials that can be adopted and adapted for clubs to promote their activities. Provide guidance on marketing options and mediums as well as communication platforms.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Assist clubs with financial planning to maximise revenue through membership fees, sales, sponsorships, grant funding, and other potential income sources

REFEREES
Co-ordinate and implement a national refereeing strategy to develop, educate and grow the number of active officials at all levels. Oversee the activities of the referee’s management panel to deliver refereeing outcomes that align with the strategic plan.

MASTERS
Collaborate with the Director of Masters Squash to co-ordinate the activities and events on the national and international calendar.

SELECTION CRITERIA
In addition to demonstrating relevant experience across the areas of key responsibility, applicants will require a range of other skills, including:

A minimum of two years’ experience in sport development and/or management and implementation of regional or national participation programmes and products
A thorough understanding of working with volunteers
Evidence of successfully working with and influencing diverse groups of stakeholders and customers
Knowledge and understanding of the Sport sector in New Zealand
A good understanding of marketing and communications
A demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets and meet financial targets
Strong leadership and team development abilities
A high integrity and self-motivation
Intermediate to advanced computer skills across a range of applications
A relevant tertiary qualification would be considered beneficial
An ability to monitor statistics / trends and produce timely and accurate reports required for Sport NZ and other stakeholders.

LOCATION AND HOURS
The Squash New Zealand office is located in Mt. Albert, Auckland and the role will be based there. Regular travel to the 11 districts throughout New Zealand will be required.

This is a permanent full time position based on a 40-hour week. As there will be a requirement for work outside “normal” office hours, including weekends, to meet the obligations of the position there will be a time in lieu policy.

TIMELINE
