Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

As an organisation, we strive to inspire, empower, and strengthen our community through physical activity, health and wellbeing.

It is vital to create inclusive spaces for all people. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team are working to increase the inclusivity of our internal and external mahi, and the environments we create in our communities. 

In order to remain accountable to our Harbour Sport values, we must apply them to our goals within the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion space.

• Respect – we want to show respect through supporting our community to learn more about how intersectionality impacts a person’s identity, and how they experience life (including experiences of sport, recreation, health and wellbeing more broadly). 
• Integrity – we want to show integrity through being honest about our current mahi and open to new practices and ways of engaging more people from our community. 
• Whakawhanaungatanga – we want to show this value through building our connections across our community. We want to build these relationships into a network to then support our community and stakeholders. 
• Inclusion – we want to apply a locally-led approach through speaking to our community groups about how they want us to support them, and make our workplace and events places where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Work by the people, for the people.  
• Leadership – we want to show this by demonstrating our Harbour Sport values when creating safe, inclusive and welcoming environments for our people.

Current News for the DEI Team

Recently, we co-hosted Aotearoa’s second Inclusive Volleyball event alongside North Harbour Volleyball for tamariki living with intellectual and physical disabilities. It was great to see so many young people having the opportunity to socialize with others, have fun, and learn a new thing or two! We hope that this is just the start for inclusive volleyball…watch this space! It was equally fantastic seeing North Harbour Volleyball coaches step in to a new space and be upskilled in this area.
