Are you passionate about supporting older adults and improving access to falls prevention initiatives? Do you enjoy people-focused, coordination-based work and supporting older adults through referral and advisory systems? Harbour Sport is seeking a Community Strength and Balance (CSB) Advisor to support the delivery and success of the ACC-approved Strength and Balance programme.
About the programme
CSB is part of ACC’s national Live Stronger for Longer initiative, supporting older adults to improve balance and leg strength and reduce the risk of falls. The programme operates through a network of approved community providers delivering evidence-based Strength and Balance classes across diverse communities.
About the role
As the CSB Advisor, you will play a key role in the Falls Referral Service, acting as a central point of contact for individuals referred into the programme. You will support older adults to access appropriate Strength and Balance classes and work closely with trainers, providers, and health and community partners to ensure timely and effective referral pathways. This role focuses on coordination, communication, and relationship management, rather than class delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing referrals into the Community Strength and Balance class network
- Acting as a key contact for older adults, referrers, and community partners
- Supporting timely and appropriate follow-up of referrals
- Working closely with CSB Trainers and providers to ensure smooth referral pathways
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to reporting and programme monitoring
- Supporting engagement with falls prevention initiatives and health agencies
About you
You are organised, people-focused, and comfortable working with older adults and a wide range of stakeholders. You enjoy coordinating services, problem-solving, and ensuring people are supported to access the right programmes.
You will ideally bring:
- Experience in health, community, or social services
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence working with referral systems and administrative processes
- An understanding of equity-focused and person-centred approaches
Relevant qualifications or experience in health, community services, or a related field are desirable.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the exercise and fitness industry or a related field, with an excellent understanding of older people and their needs. You will need excellent relationship management skills coupled with the ability to engage and influence a diverse range of people and organisations. These include external stakeholder organisations such as community exercise providers, retirement villages, health organisations, community groups, and older adults. Ideally you will have experience working with or connection to Māori and/or Pacific and/or Asian communities.
📅 Applications close at 5pm on Monday, 2nd March 2026 – Please apply early, as applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the role may be filled before the closing date.
Please Note – Only applicants with the right to work permanently in New Zealand will be considered for this position. Successful applicants will be requested to consent to a criminal record check.
