Introduction
The “Y” is exploring the possibility of collaborating with the HB community, local sport and recreation organizations, and businesses to establish an HB “Y.”
This is in line with the HB Local Park Management Plan 2022’s stated Management Intentions for Metro Park East.
The first step is to gather real data from the community to ensure the facility meets the diverse needs of the wider population. Given the project’s complexity and cost, it’s essential to design a multi-use facility that maximizes utility and benefits for all.
For transparency, this initiative is solely to test the “Y” concept drawings and is not part of any Local Board or Council process. If, after reviewing all relevant information, the “Y” decides to pursue the opportunity, it will then engage in the necessary Council procedures.
The consultation process involves gathering feedback through community surveys and targeted workshops, followed by a series of workshops to refine and finalize the project plans. This consultation is open to individuals, families, community members, organizations, clubs, local groups, schools, and Regional Sports Organizations (RSOs).
Harbour Sport, an independent organization with a broad understanding of community activity, has been commissioned to collect accurate and meaningful input from all sectors of the community, beyond just the sport sector. This data will be crucial for “The Y” as they integrate community needs and aspirations into their planning and proposal.
