Waka Ama Aotearoa NZ, Regional Coordinator – Auckland Region
As part of the Aukaha Project, a project designed to strengthen Waka Ama in Aotearoa, Waka Ama Aotearoa NZ, in collaboration with the Auckland Region Outrigger Canoe Association (AROCA) is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join the team as Regional Coordinator for the Auckland region.
Based in Auckland, you will work with the AROCA Board and the wider AROCA Waka Ama community to drive and support positive outcomes for Waka Ama in Tāmaki Makaurau. More specifically in the areas of Rangatahi participation and engagement, funding and key stakeholder relationships, event planning and volunteer coordination.
A summary of responsibilities include:
- Develop and coordinate a Rangatahi participation and engagement plan.
- Facilitate club-school relationships to maximise participation opportunities.
- Lead the coordination and development of volunteers at targeted events.
- Facilitate and promote volunteer learning opportunities.
- Support the AROCA Race Committee with event planning and administration tasks.
- Support the implementation of AROCA’s funding, sponsorship and stakeholder plan.
- Lead the delivery and reporting requirements from funding, partnerships and sponsorship agreements.
As the successful candidate, you will have:
- Knowledge and experience in Waka Ama or similar sports environments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and build positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Experience in event and volunteer coordination.
- Experience working with Rangatahi, preferably in a sports context.
- Strong levels of computer literacy.
- Experience in preparing and submitting funding applications.
- Experience in Sponsorship recruitment and coordination.
- Empathy with and ability to engage, motivate, support and grow volunteers.
- Proven ability and experience using te reo, tikanga and te ao Māori concepts.
- Clean New Zealand Drivers license and reliable transportation
